Some good parts and some bad parts, just like your expect。 Liked seeing the Big Three reunited and their banter, liked the line up of the team and their welcome to the new people, liked the idea of the original mantle holders of the current heroes needing to team up to fight the celestials。Didn’t love some of the explanation and info dumping to set up the battle, and the battle itself felt very scatter shot and disjointed at times。I do like Jason Aaron’s work, so I’ll continue with this series。

I like Jason Aaron, this is my first time to finish this volume 。。。。

How do you defeat a group of technologically advanced robotic godlike beings controlled by Loki? Well simple, put Ghost Rider in the task of kicking Loki's ass deep in the ocean, put him in his Dodge Charger from hell's trunk then let him in one of the dead ones to control that thing of course, until this I didn’t really like Robbie Reyes as the spirit of vengeance but these few issues single handedly put him in one of my favourite heroes' list, will surely check this run out more。 How do you defeat a group of technologically advanced robotic godlike beings controlled by Loki?

Awesome new story for the avengers greatly enjoyed it

Aaron’s first Avengers arc aims cosmically high, and lands amongst a nest of celestial bedbugs。 I’ve heard differing things about his run, and from this start, I’m not sure which side of the fence I fall on。I don’t like when scope and magnitude and power levels get bigger and bigger to infinity, and attempt to make the past events seem smaller and smaller。 Especially when he begins by saying that this story brings something that makes his own event seem small in comparison (or at least it was su Aaron’s first Avengers arc aims cosmically high, and lands amongst a nest of celestial bedbugs。 I’ve heard differing things about his run, and from this start, I’m not sure which side of the fence I fall on。I don’t like when scope and magnitude and power levels get bigger and bigger to infinity, and attempt to make the past events seem smaller and smaller。 Especially when he begins by saying that this story brings something that makes his own event seem small in comparison (or at least it was supposed to)。 But that scope and magnitude don’t feel earned, and the book mostly feels aimed at a younger audience (except when Tony mentions herpes? Not sure how that lands on the parental guidance system)。 The tone feels too juvenile to take seriously, especially when this is supposed to be (yet again) the biggest, baddest, most dire threat the world has ever seen。。。until it’s resolved in a few issues。 Also, I have yet to see the Celestials actually be the nigh-omnipotent, universal beings they’re touted to be, in any story。 Here, they’re glorified cosmic kaiju。 The power-levels-being-irrelevant thing is in full force here, as multiple, supposedly extra powerful Celestials fight the Avengers。 But these all powerful beings, that have evolved past traditional communication and technology etc。。。can’t do more than fight with their hands? All that is mostly griping, but it wasn’t all that bad。 It was actually decently written (until the last issue or two), and a fun (albeit somewhat senseless) comic to read。 A lot of the good also the art, which I thoroughly enjoyed。 If this was the ploy to get more kids to read comics that it seems to be, this art is a good way to do it。 It’s clean, poppy, dramatic and overall pleasing to look at。 Overall, it’s a pretty book with an over-the-top plot that kinda under delivers。 I honestly expected more from Aaron, but feel like he may have been pushed to target a specific audience。 I think this review sounds more harsh than I mean it too though, because I’m still down to read another volume。 。。。more

It's what I look for in a comic, great art and a fun, understandable story。 I don't need my brain warped every time I pick up an issue or a comprehensive guide to WTF is going on (yes I'm looking at you Hickman)。 I get enough of that trying to follow X-men。Picked me the rest of the run on Comixology It's what I look for in a comic, great art and a fun, understandable story。 I don't need my brain warped every time I pick up an issue or a comprehensive guide to WTF is going on (yes I'm looking at you Hickman)。 I get enough of that trying to follow X-men。Picked me the rest of the run on Comixology 。。。more

Welcome, friends, to the parenthetics-heavy Tuesday-night review of THE FINAL HOST, hosted by yours truly。Right。 I think my years-long affair of self-immolating passion with the works of Jason Aaron has come to an end at last。 I read this volume for one reason and one reason only–I knew it would have some bearing on Aaron’s conclusion to the War of the Realms storyline he’s been working on since the early 2010s。The idea appealed to me on paper。 The big three–Iron Man, Cap, and Thor–come together Welcome, friends, to the parenthetics-heavy Tuesday-night review of THE FINAL HOST, hosted by yours truly。Right。 I think my years-long affair of self-immolating passion with the works of Jason Aaron has come to an end at last。 I read this volume for one reason and one reason only–I knew it would have some bearing on Aaron’s conclusion to the War of the Realms storyline he’s been working on since the early 2010s。The idea appealed to me on paper。 The big three–Iron Man, Cap, and Thor–come together again, and are immediately faced with a massive, world-ending crisis (remember when the Avengers fought more personal threats?)。 Celestials fall dead all over the world, in a scene that reminded me of of the traumatically bad Original Sin, which was–gasp, also written by Aaron。 Wait…have I disliked Jason Aaron’s work before? Has the specter of my dislike haunted me all this time? Anyway, it’s Loki who does it, Loki who’s scheming to get the Avengers back together。 I love Loki, and Jason Aaron normally writes him well, but the dialogue between him and Cap is so trite, so exhausted, so overdone! What is up with that, folks? Where has originality gone? Why is this recycled tosh being published by Marvel? How come Aaron isn’t even trying anymore? The team doesn’t end with the big three, of course: Aaron’s picks for the Avengers roster are Black Panther, She-Hulk, Professor Wyrd (or was it Doctor Strange?), Ghost Rider, and the coma-inducing Captain Marvel (if you don’t get that, you don’t need to。 Civil War 2’s the name of the game)。 Also, I knew they’d made She-Hulk regress, but this copy-paste OG Hulk-like portrayal reads as such a disservice to her character。 She-Hulk’s control always defined her as very different and granted her an identity that was missing here。 It’s a bummer。The art is the blandest Marvel thoroughfare I have seen in a while; I’ve been trying, now and again, to get back into superhero comics。 They used to be such fun! And there’s plenty of fantastic work out there–Jonathan Hickman’s X-Men run starts off promising enough。I hate to be this negative–if you follow my reviews or interact with me, you know I tend towards positivity, but there’s very little here I enjoyed。 In fact, nothing comes to mind。Thankfully, the next book of Aaron's I read is THE WAR OF THE REALMS event, which I actually enjoyed parts of。 Look forward to that review。 。。。more

Kinda boring。 I really liked the first issue and the art, not sure why alot of people do not like the art。 But story-wise this felt very much inspired by the Mcu, in terms of the characterization and the dialogue。 It was just fight after fight and no real cohesion。 It's crazy how comic wise, in terms of the super teams, the Justice League stories are so brilliantly written and then there's the Avengers stuff which is always cluttered and too in your face with no real nuance。 Kinda boring。 I really liked the first issue and the art, not sure why alot of people do not like the art。 But story-wise this felt very much inspired by the Mcu, in terms of the characterization and the dialogue。 It was just fight after fight and no real cohesion。 It's crazy how comic wise, in terms of the super teams, the Justice League stories are so brilliantly written and then there's the Avengers stuff which is always cluttered and too in your face with no real nuance。 。。。more

The book constantly TELLS you the enemies are an extinction level event on a galactic-scale but never show it。 And then they seem to be defeated relatively easily with some random deus ex machinas。

This was a summer blockbuster type story。 All the heavy hitters are in it。 Taking a star off because I didn’t like the mindless smash rrrrraawwr take on Jennifer Walters。 It missed the point of She Hulk having full control of herself。 It’s just Smash Hulk as a woman。

I started reading this only because I want to try every Marvel book out right now。 I was very negatively inclined toward this book, thought I would drop it after a few pages。 The scathing reviews below don't help, seems like everyone hates this book。OMG I was so pleasantly surprised! My advice for you is to ignore all reviews (including mine) and formulate your own view for this book。It sucked me in right from the start, and I definitely want to see more of the Paleolithic Avengers (Odin, Agamott I started reading this only because I want to try every Marvel book out right now。 I was very negatively inclined toward this book, thought I would drop it after a few pages。 The scathing reviews below don't help, seems like everyone hates this book。OMG I was so pleasantly surprised! My advice for you is to ignore all reviews (including mine) and formulate your own view for this book。It sucked me in right from the start, and I definitely want to see more of the Paleolithic Avengers (Odin, Agamotto, Lady Phoenix, Iron Fist lady, Starbrand hulk-like ape-man, Black Panther, Ghost Rider riding a wooly mammoth, amazing!)This book is epic and fun! Aaron is not afraid to write a story more epic than most of the big crossover events! I would like to mention some of my favorite epic scenes, but don't want to spoil anything! He also takes enough time to showcase each and every character, which is really hard when you have 8 stars, especially these 8 characters。 He does this really old-school comic book thing that I love where the characters are second-guessing themselves and expressing their feelings in thought bubbles。 I really miss this, thought bubbles had even disappeared completely from comics at some point。 It was just such a great read for me。 The art is beautiful。 Only problem for me is that Aaron describes so many things in words, that there weren't enough panels to show everything。Something very important: It's the only book where I liked Captain Marvel and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes)。 Reyes has been very uninteresting wherever I have seen him up until now, and Captain Marvel was even downright unlikeable in most books。 I would love to read a Captain Marvel story from Jason Aaron, and will definitely check out the (sadly cancelled) Ghost Rider series。 。。。more

It worked in THOR, so now Jason Aaron is going to try it with the Avengers。 Tell two stories one current and one prehistoric at the same time。 The storyline is sweeping, and probably would have worked better had he taken a couple more issues to tell the story。 The artwork is grandiose, as it should be in a story of this magnitude。 It is good to see the "big 3" Avengers put their differences aside and get back to avenging。 It worked in THOR, so now Jason Aaron is going to try it with the Avengers。 Tell two stories one current and one prehistoric at the same time。 The storyline is sweeping, and probably would have worked better had he taken a couple more issues to tell the story。 The artwork is grandiose, as it should be in a story of this magnitude。 It is good to see the "big 3" Avengers put their differences aside and get back to avenging。 。。。more

MehThe resolution didn't match the buildup, and the buildup itself was disjointed。 There was a lot of grandiose thoughts and plans that fell flat。 Add a few internal contradictions on top of that, and you have a story with potential that ultimately falls flat。 Little character development, some story development, and fairly good artwork。 MehThe resolution didn't match the buildup, and the buildup itself was disjointed。 There was a lot of grandiose thoughts and plans that fell flat。 Add a few internal contradictions on top of that, and you have a story with potential that ultimately falls flat。 Little character development, some story development, and fairly good artwork。 。。。more

I thought this was a very interesting concept for an Avengers comic。 I love the line up of Black Panther , Doctor Strange, She Hulk, Thor, Ghost Rider, Captain America, and Iron Man。 I like how we get a glimpse of "Avengers" in the past over a million years ago and how back then even space aliens/machines fall to earth。 I liked how it flowed and the story gets better as it goes along。 I can not wait to pick up the next volume。 Lastly I also loved the art style of the comic。 I thought this was a very interesting concept for an Avengers comic。 I love the line up of Black Panther , Doctor Strange, She Hulk, Thor, Ghost Rider, Captain America, and Iron Man。 I like how we get a glimpse of "Avengers" in the past over a million years ago and how back then even space aliens/machines fall to earth。 I liked how it flowed and the story gets better as it goes along。 I can not wait to pick up the next volume。 Lastly I also loved the art style of the comic。 。。。more
